| A prime location and above and beyond service make this upscale hotel a favorite of international business travelers. This was one of the first Western brands to debut in Beijing when it opened in 1989, and the hotel impressed with its multilevel gallery of uber-luxury shops, including Harry Winston, Cartier, Chanel and more. Though the Peninsula's rooms are now ready for freshening up (with cramped bathrooms and small square footage totals), and at press time the fitness center and spa were closed for upgrading, the accommodating staff makes up for whatever the facilities may lack. Jing, the hotel's acclaimed contemporary restaurant serves updated Asian cuisine, while Huang Ting offers traditional Cantonese dishes in a setting designed to resemble a (very upscale) Qingera courtyard with plenty of antique chairs, tables and accessories sourced from that era. |
